Howard Southerland

Howard Southerland

When tools were first introduced that allowed people the artistic ability to carve and cut designs of natural wood, Howard's desire was to move into the depths of that natural-grown fiber and expose the hidden jewels contained therein. By carefully removing the unwanted areas of wood, those hidden jewels become true gems. For more than 20 years, Howard has been searching the core of fallen tree limbs and trunks to find those gems, cleaning and polishing them to reveal their natural beauty. He mostly uses a lacquering process typically found in beautiful Japanese finishes and a hand-rubbed oil finish is used on some of his pieces. The end result of each unique piece tempts the observer to not only look, but to touch and feel the wood. It is a surety that by selecting a Southerland-designed piece, you will not only have a "one-of-a-kind" piece of art, but also one that will enhance any area of your home or office.
